Obituary For Carol M Moon
Carol Mae (Kennedy) Moon, age 91, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on April 24, 2026. She was born on December 12, 1934, in Walkerton, Indiana, to Aloysius Jerome Kennedy and Helen Josephine Baker.
Carol was a loving, spirited, and interesting woman whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She never shook hands and was a big hugger. Saying you could never have enough hugs. She carried herself with a strong and determined spirit, and those closest to her knew her as a feisty matriarch who was never afraid to speak her mind. If you ever wondered what mom had been doing you just needed look at her calendar. She wrote something that happened almost every day and kept them back to the 1970’s. When we couldn't remember an event, we joked, called mom and have her look it up.
She worked at The Milady Shop, in the shoe department where her friendly nature and sense of style served her well. Carol enjoyed working with her neighbor and best friends Jan and Jay Simkins. Her warmth and personality made her memorable to coworkers and customers alike. She brought the same energy and care to her home life, where she was always willing to lend a hand and help wherever she was needed.
Carol especially loved spending time with her family and doting on her children. As the years passed, she remained a steady and dependable presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was always there if needed to pick the kids up from school, wash dishes, fold laundry or cook a meal. Her family knew they could count on her, and she found joy in being involved in their lives.
She also enjoyed fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, crocheting. She crocheted blankets and donated them to Linus Program. Later she volunteered her time delivering Meals on Wheels with her late husband. After his passing she found use for her sewing skills at Busy Hands a non-profit that that sewed items for the needy. She stayed till she was 85, working 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week cutting and sewing at the center. Often sewing at home or shopping yard sales and thrift stores for gently used items to help at the center. Her big project was making weighted blankets, weighted stuffed animals or weighted vest for Autistic children. She talked of her work often and was very proud. After Busy Hands she could be found most afternoons at her daughter’s house doing 1000pcs jigsaw puzzles.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Kenton Dale Moon; her son, Terry Micheal Moon; her sister, Patricia Elaine Sullivan and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Vickie Stepien (Rich), David Moon (Mary), Connie Moon and her wife Susan Whitfield, and Cindy Moon. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom will carry forward her memory and the many lessons she shared through her life.
Those who knew Carol will remember her for her loving heart, her spirited nature, and the interesting and memorable way she lived each day. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the values she passed down, and the many lives she touched throughout her long and meaningful life.
