Obituary For Eleanor Moore

Eleanor Moore, 98, of Dowagiac, Michigan, entered into Glory on April 7, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born in Niles on December 21, 1927, to the late Elmer J. and Amanda (Egmer) Fisher.

Eleanor’s faith in Christ guided her every step. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church in Dowagiac where she served in many leadership positions.

On June 6, 1946, Eleanor married Dick Monroe Hass. She became a hardworking “farmer’s wife,” and had 6 beautiful children. Later, she and Dick became realtors for United Farm Agency, selling farms and lake property in Cass and adjoining counties. In 1965, Dick passed away suddenly, and Eleanor raised their children on her own.

When Southwestern Michigan College opened, she was hired as a library assistant. She retired after serving in that position for 20 years.

On March 17, 1974, Eleanor married Woodrow “Bud” Moore. They were married for 29 years before Bud passed away in 2002.

She was a prize-winning quilter, and enjoyed baking, crocheting, and crafting of all kinds. She handmade beautiful christening gowns for many of her great granddaughters. Eleanor was very involved in the Cass County Fair, where she served as a 4-H leader. She received the Homemaker of the Year award in 1992, and was also a lifetime member of the Community Grange #1675. She loved working in the Grange booth restaurant at the fair every year. In 1996, Eleanor and Bud were honored to be inducted into the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her siblings, Marjorie Lee and Robert Fisher.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ruth Ann (Richard) Porter, Dean (Glenda) Hass, Bill (Cheri) Hass, Rick (Jill) Hass, Tom (Lori) Hass, Ellen (Allen) Schmidt, and stepson, Don (Marcia) Moore. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren, all of whom will cherish her memory and carry on her remarkable legacy.

She will be remembered for her extraordinary strength and unwavering faith. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is safe in the arms of Jesus, and that they will be reunited in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 2 at First Christian Church, 201 Oak Street, Dowagiac.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to Michigan State Grange Foundation, Cass County Hospice, Inc., or First Christian Church of Dowagiac.
